As many others, we’ve been waiting with anticipation for the release of this year’s Pirelli calendar, a project documenting over 50 years of iconic celebrity images by the most highly acclaimed photographers of the moment. This year’s calendar was shot by Peter Lindbergh, a renowned fashion photographer. As per Pirelli’s description, the 2017 calendar “conveys personality, sensitivity and the guts to be yourself”. Lindbergh’s aim for this year’s Pirelli calendar was “not shoot a calendar about perfect bodies, but to capture sensitivity and emotion, laying bare the souls of the women in the images, rendering them more naked that a nude.” The cast of this year’s Pirelli calendar is star-studded with the likes of Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlotte Rampling, Lea Seydoux, Uma Thurman, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright, Zhang Ziyi and Anastasia Ignatova. “As an artist, I feel I have a responsibility to free women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection.
