This is where we create the Kissed By Light magic. Located in the historical Toronto district, the studio is full of bright, natural light, so very important to each of our photo sessions. It is here that our talented photographers capture the beauty and mystery behind our subjects.
FOUNDED IN 2010
We began with an idea that photography is an incredibly empowering art. For a while, available only to models and celebrities, it is a form of self-expression and liberation that lay forbidden. Our photographer and founder Lora Vertue has set out to create the full photography experience that she has done with models in her fashion photography career, but with everyone in mind. Because we truly believe that everyone can and should enjoy being a model at least once!
Prior to opening, our studio’s head photographer Lora was taking on primarily commercial clients, doing photography in the fashion industry such as editorials and advertisement campaigns. But, in her personal time, Lora would often photograph her friends and acquaintances, experimenting and practicing. It was then that she started to notice the transformative power of photography – the glow and joy that exuded from the women when they got to experience what it is like being a model on set.
From getting makeup and hair done, and styling, to learning how to pose, each step revealed a world that seemed only available to models and celebrities at the time. And, when they got to see the final photos, there would often be a happy gasp: “That is me?!” Seeing themselves through the eyes of a professional, suddenly became a way to finally believe that not only do you not need to be a model to be photogenic, but you can also finally see yourself in the light that we think only the stars and models can shine in. The newly found confidence, the glow that each lady would exude was unmistakable. It was then that the idea for the studio was born – a safe space where anyone can experience the power of professional photography and see themselves in a new, bright light.
We believe that photography is not just an art but also an opportunity to spread a message. Over the years, we got to work with some wonderful companies, local charities, and a lot of marvelous women from different walks of life.
In 2015, we got to hold a fundraiser for a local women’s shelter that supports women escaping domestic abuse.
This is also the year that we have started our beloved “Power of Her” interview and photography series, for which we invite formidable women from many different walks of life and spread the message of women’s strength and inner beauty. We had the pleasure of having such guests as Elizaveta Bulokhova (model and cancer survivor), Irene Khrostoforova (founder of Gaia Secrets), and Valeriya Lipovetsky (model and popular blogger).
In 2017, we partnered with NARS and Sephora, creating photography experiences for the winners of the Sephora points program and women recovering from breast cancer.
For our 7th year now, we continue supporting Trees Canada, ensuring that with proceeds from each photo session, we plant a tree in Ontario.
